COMMERCIAL OPERATION BEGINS AT KÌNH NGƯ TRẮNG–KÌNH NGƯ TRẮNG NAM OIL FIELD

The Việt Nam–Russia joint venture Vietsovpetro officially launched commercial operations at the Kình Ngư Trắng–Kình Ngư Trắng Nam (KNT–KNTN) oil field on Monday, marking a new milestone in Việt Nam’s petroleum sector. The project strengthens national energy security while reaffirming Việt Nam’s maritime sovereignty through strategic oil and gas cooperation in the Cửu Long and Nam Côn Sơn basins. At the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bùi Thanh Sơn highlighted Petrovietnam’s achievements despite global challenges, stressing that the success of this project demonstrates both technical capability and the effectiveness of Việt Nam–Russia energy cooperation under their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Over 33 months, the project team overcame the pandemic, harsh offshore conditions, and high technical demands, completing the work on schedule with over 6.6 million safe work hours. Sơn urged Petrovietnam to continue innovating, accelerating green and digital transitions, and building high-quality human resources to meet Việt Nam’s rising energy demand, as outlined in Power Development Plan VIII (PDP8). Later, Sơn met Zarubezhneft’s General Director Sergei Kudryashov, reaffirming that oil and gas cooperation remains a symbol of bilateral ties. Both sides expressed hope to expand collaboration into clean energy and offshore wind power. (ICE HO CHI MINH CITY)
