INDONESIAN GOVERNMENT SCALES BACK INFRASTRUCTURE SPENDING ON TOLL ROADS
Beginning in 2026, Indonesia’s government under President Prabowo Subianto will drastically reduce state funding for toll road construction, allocating funds for only 28 kilometers of new toll roads. This marks a shift from the infrastructure-heavy policies of former President Joko Widodo. Public-private partnerships will continue, but without direct state construction funding. Instead, the government will focus on developing surrounding areas to boost traffic and commercial viability. Infrastructure spending will be consolidated into a broader economic function budget of Rp 820.4 trillion, prioritizing food and energy security, and support for low-income households, farmers, and fishermen. The Public Works Ministry will no longer have a dedicated infrastructure budget, with allocations shared across ministries. Despite reduced toll road investment, the 2026 plan includes 194.75 km of new national roads, 1,507.08 km of road maintenance, nearly 4 km of new bridges, two new airports, expansion of Patimban Port, 15 dams, and irrigation development across 104,000 hectares. This reflects a policy shift toward essential services and welfare programs, leaving large-scale toll road development to the private sector.Source: https://jakartaglobe.id/business/prabowo-government-scales-back-infrastructure-spending-on-toll-roads (ICE GIACARTA)
