KAZAKHSTAN-GRAIN-HARVEST-DELAY
Heavy rains delay Kazakhstan's wheat, barley harvestPersistent heavy rains are delaying the harvest of wheat and barley in Kazakhstan's northern grain belt, with lentils and peas at risk of quality degradation, according to a report from the Grain Union's analytics committee."Mass harvesting in the key northern regions is now unlikely to begin before the first days of September, assuming weather conditions improve," Yevgeny Karabanov, head of the committee, wrote on his Telegram channel. He said that abundant and prolonged rains do not allow for the cutting and threshing of the early crops that are ready. He reported that most northern regions received significant rainfall last week, with some areas receiving nearly a month's worth of precipitation. While meteorologists forecast warmer weather with scattered clouds and light rain for the current week, the delay persists.According to earlier data from the Ministry of Agriculture, as of Aug. 22, harvesting was complete on 1.7 million hectares, or 10.7% of the total area, with 2.4 million tonnes of grain threshed.
