TARIFFS: US-EU NEGOTIATIONS CONTINUE TO INCLUDE WINE AND AGRI-FOOD PRODUCTS IN T

EU and Italian Wine Tariffs: Negotiations ContinueEuropean and Italian wine now face a 15% U.S. tariff, though efforts to secure exemptions remain ongoing. Following a recent EU–U.S. joint statement, the US Wine Trade Alliance emphasized that tariffs threaten American businesses—restaurants, retailers, importers, and distributors—while advocating that wine be included in future tariff relief. They noted that lowering tariffs would support jobs and consumers without harming domestic producers. In Italy, Palazzo Chigi confirmed that the government, alongside the European Commission and other EU states, is working to expand exempt sectors, starting with agri-food. Minister Adolfo Urso highlighted Italian wine’s unique quality and appeal to American consumers, calling the 15% tariff an obstacle that can be overcome. He stressed that, as with automotive, semiconductor, and pharmaceutical sectors, completing negotiations for food and wine is crucial to provide businesses with a stable and predictable framework.
