KAZAKHSTAN-GRAIN-HARVEST-OUTLOOK

Kazakhstan’s grain harvest will reach 21.7 mln tonnes in 2025 – Grain UnionThis year’s grain harvest in Kazakhstan is expected to amount to 21.7 million tonnes, including 16.2 million tonnes of wheat, according to the country's Grain Union."According to the preliminary forecast from the Grain Union's analytics committee, the grain harvest in Kazakhstan in 2025 will total 21.7 million tonnes, compared to 24.6 million tonnes in 2024, including 16.2 million tonnes of wheat versus 18.6 million tonnes in 2024," Yevgeny Karabanov, head of the analytics department at the Grain Union, told Interfax-Kazakhstan.The expert noted that the harvest of legumes is forecast at 1 million tonnes, up from 0.6 million tonnes in 2024, while the oilseed harvest is projected to be 4.2 million tonnes, an increase from 3.3 million tonnes. This includes 2.1 million tonnes of sunflower seeds, compared to 1.8 million tonnes last year, and 1 million tonnes of flaxseed, up from 0.76 million tonnes.Karabanov said that the decline in grain production is linked to a government diversification program that has reduced wheat sown area by 6.1% year-on-year. This has been accompanied by a significant expansion in the planting of marginal crops, with legume area growing 1.6 times and oilseed area increasing by 46%."The total harvest of grains, legumes and oilseeds is expected to come to 27.1 million tonnes. This is only 1.4 million tonnes, or 5%, less than the record harvest collected in the country in 2024. The expected harvest of all crops in 2025 will be 20% above the average long-term figures," Karabanov said.Earlier, Deputy Minister of Agriculture Azat Sultanov said that Kazakhstan's grain harvest in 2025 could exceed 20 million tonnes, provided weather conditions remain favorable.By September 4, Kazakh farmers had harvested 4.6 million hectares, which is 28.7% of the total sown area for grain and leguminous crops, with 6.5 million tonnes of grain threshed so far.The total area under crops this year is as much as 23.6 million hectares, of which 16 million hectares are under grain and leguminous crops.According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Kazakhstan threshed a record 26.5 million tonnes of grain in 2024, with an average yield of 1.6 tonnes per hectare.
