Kazakh railway operator expands grain wagon fleet by 20%Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ), the national railway operator, has increased its grain wagon fleet, the company’s press service said.KTZ now has about 13,800 grain wagons, a 20% increase from last year, along with 16,500 covered wagons. Additionally, the company borrowed more than 2,000 wagons from other CIS operators.From September 2024 to August 2025, KTZ transported 13.3 million tonnes of grain, including 10.2 million tonnes for export. During the period, 1,670 grain trains were dispatched, with shipments heading to China, Central Asia, and through the port of Aktau.According to the Grain Union, Kazakhstan’s grain and flour exports in grain equivalent for the 2025–2026 agricultural year (September 2025 to August 2026) are forecast at 10.4 million tonnes, down 13% from the previous season.Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) is a transport, warehousing and distribution company, which is part of Kazakhstan’s National Wealth Fund Samruk-Kazyna.
