PERTAMINA BREAKS GROUND ON US$3M GREEN HYDROGEN PROJECT IN INDONESIA
PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE), a publicly listed subsidiary of Indonesia’s state-owned oil and gas firm, has launched a US$3 million green hydrogen pilot project in Ulubelu, Lampung. The facility, expected to begin operations next year, will produce up to 100 kilograms of green hydrogen daily using geothermal energy and Anion Exchange Membrane (AEM) electrolyzer technology—marking a first for Indonesia. PGE aims to use the hydrogen as feedstock for green ammonia and methanol, supporting the country’s 2060 net-zero emissions target and positioning Indonesia within the global clean energy supply chain. Indonesia is accelerating its hydrogen strategy through the National Hydrogen Strategy (SHN) and the National Hydrogen and Ammonia Roadmap (RHAN), aiming to reduce fossil fuel dependence and become a regional export hub. Despite current production costs being significantly higher than conventional hydrogen, experts remain optimistic due to the growing availability of renewables and the sector’s long-term potential, with Goldman Sachs estimating a $12 trillion global market.Source: https://www.thejakartapost.com/business/2025/09/10/pertamina-breaks-ground-on-3m-green-hydrogen-project.html (ICE GIACARTA)
