INDONESIA PROJECTS 3.5M TON RICE SURPLUS IN 2025, NO IMPORTS NEEDED

Indonesia’s Deputy Agriculture Minister Sudaryono announced that national rice production in 2025 is projected to reach 33–34 million tons, resulting in a surplus of approximately 3.5 million tons compared to the previous year. This surplus is expected to secure domestic supply and eliminate the need for rice imports through the end of the year. The projection is based on data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS), which officially determines harvest volumes, while the Agriculture Ministry monitors planted areas. Sudaryono emphasized that increased planting, supported by favorable weather, efficient irrigation, modern machinery, and government-backed agricultural extension programs, has significantly boosted productivity. Key incentives such as the farm-gate price of Rp6,500 per kilogram have further motivated farmers to expand cultivation. The government’s strategic interventions, combined with improved input distribution and infrastructure, are credited with stabilizing production trends after years of fluctuation. Sudaryono also noted that green shoots of innovation and policy alignment are helping position Indonesia toward greater food self-sufficiency, reinforcing its commitment to long-term agricultural resilience.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/379245/indonesia-projects-35m-ton-rice-surplus-in-2025-no-imports-needed?utm_source=antaranews&utm_medium=mobile&utm_campaign=latest_category  (ICE GIACARTA)
