INDONESIA DELAYS 1.2 MILLION TONS OF RAW SUGAR IMPORTS TO BOOST DOMESTIC PRODUCT
The Indonesian government has postponed the import of 1.2 million tons of raw sugar—30% of the 2025 quota—to prioritize domestic production and reduce reliance on foreign supply. With 70% of the approved 4 million-ton quota already realized, the move aligns with national goals to achieve sugar self-sufficiency: by 2028 for household consumption and by 2030 for industrial use. Deputy Agriculture Minister Sudaryono emphasized the gradual reduction of imports, supported by rising domestic output, which reached 2.46 million tons in 2024 and is projected to grow to 2.9 million tons in 2025.Source: https://jakartaglobe.id/business/indonesia-delays-12-million-tons-of-raw-sugar-imports-to-boost-domestic-production (ICE GIACARTA)
