VIỆT NAM CAN REACH US$1.15 BILLION IN COCONUT EXPORTS BY END-2025

HCM CITY — Việt Nam’s coconut industry is on track to achieve US$1.1–1.15 billion in export turnover by the end of 2025, securing its position among the world’s top five coconut exporters, according to the Việt Nam Coconut Association. In the first half of 2025, exports of fresh coconuts, frozen coconut milk, crude coconut oil, and coconut-based food and cosmetics reached $520 million, up 20 per cent year-on-year. Fresh coconut exports alone are expected to surpass last year’s $390 million, supported by rising farm-gate prices, which have tripled from VNĐ5,000 per nut in 2023 to VNĐ15,000 in Q3 2025. Experts stressed the need for sustainable practices, including banning harmful pesticides, promoting good farming techniques, and ensuring product traceability. The sector currently faces challenges of small-scale, unplanned cultivation, resulting in inconsistent quality and sizes. The Mekong Delta remains the largest coconut-growing region, but stable raw material supply is crucial for growth. Cooperative farming models and clearer distinctions between coconuts for drinking and oil extraction are recommended to reduce losses. China, consuming over six billion coconuts annually, has recently approved six new growing area codes and packing facilities in An Giang Province. While Việt Nam lags in fresh coconut imports, it holds strong advantages in processed coconut products. — VNS (ICE HO CHI MINH CITY)
