Kazakhstan secures $400-mln ADB loan for southern highway projectThe Asian Development Bank has approved a $400 million sovereign-guaranteed loan to Kazakhstan’s national road operator, KazAvtoZhol, to finance the construction of a new highway in southern Kazakhstan."The project will design and construct a 102-kilometer highway that bypasses Saryagash city in the Turkistan region. Equipped with a smart traffic management system, the new road will provide sustainable connectivity by redirecting transit traffic from urban areas, thereby reducing congestion, shortening travel times, and improving overall mobility, according to the ADB's press release. The highway is also expected to improve connectivity between Corridors 3 and 6 of the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation Program — key trade routes linking Kazakhstan with neighboring countries.Established in 1966, the Asian Development Bank counts 69 member countries, 50 of them in Asia. Kazakhstan joined the ADB in 1994 and has since received over $7.5 billion in loans, grants, and technical assistance to support development in sectors including public administration, finance, energy, and transport.KazAvtoZhol JSC serves as Kazakhstan’s national operator for road infrastructure management.
