Tokayev says oil, gas and coal will remain central to Kazakhstan’s energy mixPresident Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has said that Kazakhstan’s oil, gas and coal resources will continue to play a key role in the country’s and the world’s energy supply."In my opinion, hydrocarbons will continue to play a key role in global energy and, consequently, in Kazakhstan's energy. As the experience of a number of countries, including European ones, shows, alternative energy sources can perform a kind of auxiliary solution," Tokayev said at a ceremony in the Akorda presidential palace, where he congratulated oil industry workers ahead of Oil and Gas Industry Workers’ Day.The president also called for greater use of advanced technologies to fully purify coal for industrial use, particularly in power generation."Coal accounts for about 70% of Kazakhstan's energy balance, our country is among the world's top ten coal producers, and we should not abandon this advantage but, on the contrary, should use it effectively," Tokayev said.Oil and Gas Industry Workers' Day is celebrated in Kazakhstan on the first Sunday of September.In 2024, Kazakhstan marked the 125th anniversary of its oil and gas industry; the first gush of oil was obtained at the Karashungul field in the Atyrau region in 1899.
