INDONESIA TO CENTRALIZE FUEL IMPORTS VIA PERTAMINA AMID SUPPLY SHORTAGES
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) plans to implement a single-gateway policy for fuel imports through PT Pertamina to address recent shortages at private gas stations. Deputy Minister Yuliot Tanjung stated that the ministry is consolidating consumption data from private retailers to determine appropriate import volumes, with an estimated total need of 1.4 million kiloliters. Pertamina will manage the import process to ensure accurate allocation and avoid supply mismatches. The fuel will be sourced from U.S. companies like ExxonMobil and Chevron under a bilateral trade agreement. Meanwhile, Pertamina’s commercial arm, PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, has reported a notable increase in demand for non-subsidized fuel, driven by the targeted subsidy program via MyPertamina. As of July 2025, non-subsidized products made up 41% of total fuel sales, with significant year-on-year growth in Pertamax, Pertamax Turbo, and diesel consumption. The shift reflects changing consumer behavior as QR code requirements for subsidized fuel encourage a move toward unsubsidized alternatives.Source: https://indonesiabusinesspost.com/5227/policy-and-governance/government-to-centralize-fuel-imports-via-pertamina-amid-supply-shortages# (ICE GIACARTA)
