INDONESIA PLANS TO STOP SALT IMPORTS BY 2027
Indonesia aims to end its reliance on imported salt by 2027, according to Deputy Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Didit Herdiawan. While imports will still be necessary in 2024 and 2025, the government is accelerating domestic production through strategic programs. These include the creation of a 13,000-hectare National Salt Industry Center in Rote Ndao and the intensification of existing salt-producing areas, which together could significantly boost output. With national demand projected at 4.9 million tons and domestic production plus stock expected to meet 63% of that in 2025, the focus remains on closing the gap—particularly for industrial salt, which still depends on imports. Household consumption needs are already met through local supply, but industrial-grade salt remains a key challenge for achieving full self-sufficiency.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/380257/indonesia-plans-to-stop-salt-imports-by-2027 (ICE GIACARTA)
