VIỆT NAM RANKS 44TH IN 2025 GLOBAL INNOVATION INDEX
HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam secured 44th place among 139 economies in the 2025 Global Innovation Index (GII) released by WIPO, maintaining its position from 2024 with an overall score of 37.1. It ranked second among lower middle-income economies, after India, and overtook Thailand to place third in ASEAN, behind Singapore and Malaysia. Since 2013, Việt Nam has climbed 32 positions, making it one of the fastest risers globally. It has also sustained 15 consecutive years of performing above expectations relative to its development level, alongside India. The report highlighted Việt Nam’s strong results in high-tech exports, high-tech manufacturing, and publications. The country ranked 4th in labour productivity growth, 7th in smartphone app creation, and 8th in business-financed R&D spending. It was also among the world’s three fastest-growing economies in labour productivity between 2014 and 2024. From 2017 to 2025, Việt Nam advanced significantly in input indicators (from 71st to 50th), while consistently maintaining a top-40 output ranking, underscoring its ability to translate resources into innovation outcomes. Global leaders in innovation this year are Switzerland, Sweden, the US, Korea, and Singapore, while China entered the top 10 for the first time. — VNS (ICE HO CHI MINH CITY)
