VIỆT NAM OUTLINES ORGANIC AGRICULTURE VISION AT ASIAN GATHERING
NINH BÌNH — Việt Nam is spotlighting organic farming as it hosts the 8th Organic Asia Congress (OAC) 2025, with over 550 delegates from 33 countries attending. The event comes amid a global organic market exceeding €135 billion, with China ranking third worldwide after the US and Europe. IFOAM-Organics Asia President Mathew John praised grassroots efforts in Asia and stressed that the congress is a chance to showcase Việt Nam’s progress. Speakers highlighted organic agriculture as a strategic response to climate change, food security, and ecosystem balance. Việt Nam has created a strong legal framework for green growth, including Decree 109/2018 and Decision 885 (2020). Ninh Bình links organic farming with eco-tourism, attracting 31.7 million visitors and VNĐ31.1 trillion ($1.2 billion) between 2020–25 through multi-value models like rice fields and lotus ponds. By 2024, the province had developed 26ha of organic medicinal plants, 5,000ha of rice, and 700ha of vegetables, alongside climate-friendly farming. Since 2011, Việt Nam’s organic land has grown rapidly, with exports reaching 100 markets and domestic demand rising. While challenges include high costs and small-scale production, authorities aim to expand, apply advanced standards, and strengthen branding, positioning organic farming as a key pillar of sustainable development by 2030.
