INDONESIA STRENGTHENS CARBON TRADE THROUGH INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION

Indonesia’s Minister of Environment, Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to advancing carbon trading through international collaboration, marked by the signing of two new Mutual Recognition Agreements (MRAs) with Global Carbon Council and Plan Vivo on September 16, 2025. These agreements—Indonesia’s second and third MRAs following its partnership with Gold Standard—aim to strengthen the integrity of the national carbon market and expand financing opportunities for green development. Under its Enhanced Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), Indonesia targets a 32.89% reduction in emissions through domestic efforts and 43.20% with international support. Achieving these goals will require significant investment: approximately US$24 billion for the forestry sector and US$240 billion for energy. Hanif emphasized that all carbon traded under the voluntary market will be registered as national assets, and that collaboration with global carbon standards is essential to meeting Indonesia’s climate ambitions.Source: https://indonesiabusinesspost.com/5240/energy-and-resources/indonesia-strengthens-carbon-trade-through-international-cooperation (ICE GIACARTA)
