INDONESIA & EU PLAN TO SIGN TRADE PACT NEXT WEEK IN BALI
The European Union and Indonesia are set to sign the long-awaited Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) on September 23, 2025, in Bali, marking the culmination of nine years of negotiations. The agreement will eliminate tariffs on 80% of Indonesia’s export products to the EU and remove key nontariff barriers, while also expanding market access for European agricultural and manufactured goods. EU Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic is expected to attend the signing, which Indonesian officials hope will accelerate the ratification process and allow implementation by late 2026 or early 2027. The CEPA is projected to significantly boost bilateral trade, which reached $30.1 billion in 2024, with Indonesia recording a $4.5 billion surplus. The EU currently ranks as Indonesia’s fifth-largest trading partner, with key exports including palm oil, footwear, and textiles. Officials anticipate the agreement could double trade volume within five years, reinforcing Indonesia’s strategic position in global supply chains and deepening its economic ties with Europe.Source: https://www.thejakartapost.com/business/2025/09/17/eu-ri-plan-to-sign-trade-pact-next-week-in-bali-airlangga-says.html (ICE GIACARTA)
