INDONESIA RANKS SECOND GLOBALLY IN GEOTHERMAL ENERGY CAPACITY
Indonesia has reaffirmed its position as a global leader in geothermal energy, ranking second worldwide with an installed capacity of 2,744 MW—just behind the United States. Speaking at the 11th Indonesia International Geothermal Convention and Exhibition (IIGCE) 2025, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia emphasized the country’s vast potential of 23,742 MW and its openness to international collaboration to accelerate the clean energy transition. He underscored the importance of exchanging technology and expertise to build a resilient and sustainable energy future. Supporting this vision, Director General Eniya Listiani Dewi highlighted the government’s comprehensive policy framework aimed at fostering a robust geothermal ecosystem. INAGA Chairman Julfi Hadi reinforced geothermal’s reliability, noting its capacity factor exceeds 90%, making it a cornerstone of Indonesia’s energy strategy.
