DIA: DEBT SURPASSES CEILING AS SERVICE COSTS REACH RECORD HIGH; GOVERNMENT FAILS

Economic expert Mounir Dia sounded the alarm over the latest Central Bank figures, warning that public debt has risen beyond sustainable limits to an unprecedented level. Dia said the government has failed to fulfill its pledge before Parliament to reduce public debt, and is now facing a deepening debt crisis that is expected to persist through 2025. He explained that public debt exceeded JOD46 billion in the first seven months of this year—equivalent to 118.5% of GDP. He added that July alone recorded an increase of more than JOD250 million, marking the highest monthly rise in Jordan’s economic history.v (ICE AMMAN)
