PepsiCo begins construction of $368 mln snack factory in KazakhstanAmerican multinational corporation PepsiCo has begun construction of a plant for the production of salty snacks in the Almaty region, the press service of the Kazakh President reported.President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev discussed the project's implementation with the Chairman of the PepsiCo Foundation Board of Directors, Steven Kehoe."A world-famous brand has begun construction of a snack factory in the Almaty region with an investment volume of $368 million," stated the message following the meeting.The President noted the expected economic effect of the project: in addition to creating about 900 permanent jobs, the company plans to fully localize the cultivation of potatoes for chips.According to a PepsiCo representative, about 15 farms from the Pavlodar, Akmola, Karaganda, Almaty, and Zhetysu regions are currently participating in the program.As previously reported, this PepsiCo plant, which will also produce Lays chips, will be the largest in Central Asia. In June 2024, the planned investment amount was $160 million, but the company later decided to double its investment.PepsiCo intends to more than double the plant's capacity. The launch of the first phase and the release of the first batch of Kazakh products are planned for March 2026, with the plant expected to reach full capacity by September 2027. The production capacity and potato processing volume will triple—from 70,000 to 210,000 tonnes—which will yield about 70,000 tonnes of finished products per year. (ICE ALMATY)
