PH ELECTED TO INT’L ATOMIC ENERGY AGENCY BOARD
THE Philippines has been elected to the board of governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for the term 2025-2027 at the 69th regular session of the IAEA General Conference in Vienna, Austria. The country emerged as the consensus nominee from the Far East region, after an intense election campaign that lasted over several months, the Department of Energy said on Wednesday. The Philippines’ last membership in the board was in the 2015-2017 term. “The Philippines’ election to the board of governors of the IAEA reinforces its role in shaping global policies on nuclear safety, security and the peaceful use of atomic energy. As one of only 35 member states represented on the board, the Philippines will help steer key decisions on safeguards, technical cooperation and the responsible advancement of nuclear technology worldwide,” Energy Secretary Sharon Garin said. “Moreover, this development is aligned with the Philippine Nuclear Energy Plan, which targets up to 4,800 megawatts of nuclear capacity by 2040,” she added. https://www.manilatimes.net/2025/09/25/business/top-business/ph-elected-to-intl-atomic-energy-agency-board/2189896 (ICE SINGAPORE)
