Tokayev highlights Kazakhstan’s role as key uranium supplier to U.S.Kazakhstan supplies approximately 40% of the world’s uranium and accounts for about 24% of U.S. imports, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said."Kazakhstan meets approximately 40% of the global uranium demand, and about 24% of US imports of this material come from Kazakhstan. In line with US energy priorities, we also promote clean, efficient and environmentally friendly energy solutions based on coal, which accounts for more than 70% of power generation in Kazakhstan," Tokayev said, speaking in New York at a roundtable with American business representatives.The president's words are quoted in a statement from his press service.Tokayev stressed the importance of developing new opportunities in geological exploration, expanding existing projects, and advancing uranium mining and processing."Kazakhstan, being one of the world’s largest holders of coal reserves in the world, shares the US approach that coal remains a reliable and secure energy source, at least in the foreseeable future. Our energy strategy rests on four components: oil, gas, coal and uranium; and we intend to firmly adhere to this principle," the president said.He added that Kazakhstan "has successfully created an investor-friendly jurisdiction in the mining sector, underpinned by transparent and comprehensive legislation."
