KAZAKHSTAN-GRAIN-REVIEW - PART 2

GRAIN EXPORTGrain exports remain a key direction for Kazakhstan's agro-sector: the country is consistently among the top ten global suppliers of wheat and flour, supplying both neighboring states and distant markets. At the UN General Assembly, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stated that the country's export grain potential is estimated at 12 million tonnes. The Ministry of Agriculture forecasts supplies of the 2025 harvest grain at the level of 8-9 million tonnes.Karabanov emphasizes that due to Kazakhstan's remoteness from access to the world ocean, the main export markets for Kazakh wheat and processed products are limited to nearby countries and remain traditional: Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, China, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan."Among distant countries, exports of durum wheat for pasta production are carried out to Italy, where, based on the results of the past marketing year, our country became the third-largest supplier of durum wheat among other global suppliers," the expert noted.Meanwhile, the government hopes that extending subsidies for transporting grain to seaports will help expand the geography of supplies. According to data as of September 15, since the beginning of the year, the Food Corporation has already paid 14.8 billion tenge to exporters and grain producers as compensation for part of the transportation costs for wheat supplies. Thus, despite differing assessments and cautious forecasts, Kazakhstan is approaching the end of the harvest with more or less confident results. New challenges and tasks lie ahead for farmers. In 2024, Kazakhstan harvested a record 26 million tonnes of grain. According to the latest data from the Ministry of Agriculture, from September 2024 to July 2025, the country exported 12.4 million tonnes of last year's harvest grain and flour in grain equivalent, which is 33.3% more than in the same period of the previous agricultural season (9.3 million tonnes).
