KAZAKHSTAN-URANIUM-DEFICIT-KAZATOMPROM

Kazatomprom warns of structural uranium deficit by 2035Kazakhstan's national atomic company, Kazatomprom, forecasts a structural deficit in the global uranium market by the mid-2030s."By the mid-2030s, around 2035, we will face a structural uranium deficit. To meet this unmet demand, we would need at least another Kazatomprom, which is impossible," said Marat Tulebayev, First Deputy Chairman of the Board and Chief Director for Economics and Finance, speaking at the World Atomic Week 2025 forum. For years, Kazatomprom has been a key low-cost supplier, ensuring energy security for nuclear power-producing nations, he said.Tulebayev noted that the lowest-cost uranium deposits have been developed over the years and are now becoming scarce. "The era of cheap uranium with low production costs is fading," he stated. "This reality is reflected in both long and short-term forecasts. Despite the volatility of the spot market, we have seen a price surge over the last two weeks, which shows how these factors are impacting the market," he said.Kazatomprom is engaged in uranium mining, the processing of rare metals, and the production and sale of beryllium and tantalum products. All of its production is exported. The company is state-controlled, with the national wealth fund "Samruk-Kazyna" owning 62.99% of shares and the Ministry of Finance of Kazakhstan owning 12.01%. The free float is 25%. (ICE ALMATY)
