Government is to adopt a draft amendment to VAT bill aimed at tightening up the tax system without increasing the rates. The proposed changes cover a catalogue of 25 issues. According to government announcements, a joint liability of the purchaser for the seller's tax arrears will be extended in order to combat fraudulent transactions and tax refund fraud more effectively. However, there will also be changes beneficial to taxpayers, such as a reduction in formalities when dissolving a company. There will also be no random deletions of taxpayers from the register. An interesting new feature will appear in VAT regulations concerning international trade - VAT depots. This procedure is to apply to trade with EU countries and will allow a zero VAT rate to be applied, among other things, to the purchase of goods from other EU countries. (ICE VARSAVIA)
