PKP INTERCITY PREPARES FOR A PURCHASE OF HIGH-SPEED TRAINS

PKP Intercity is preparing to purchase high-speed trains. The carrier intends to buy 20 vehicles with an option for another 35, which will be able to run not only on Polish tracks, but also abroad. The value of the order amounts to PLN2.5bn, or over PLN120m per vehicle. Central Transportation Port (CPK) is planning to build a high-speed railway, the so-called Y network, on which trains will be able to travel at speeds of up to 350 km/h. The Łódź-Warsaw line is to be ready in 2032, and further sections by 2035. It will be used, for example, by the PKP Intercity trains currently being purchased. Piotr Malepszak, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, reports that, as promised, following the recent selection of a double-decker train supplier, CPK is now in the process of selecting a supplier of high-speed vehicles. “Thanks to this, the company will be ready not only to serve the Y line, but also to compete on other routes”, he says.
