POLISH PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRY IS AT AN IMPORTANT MOMENT
Although the situation in the pharmaceutical industry is improving, there are still many challenges. The number of pharmacies has been declining for years, and wholesale margins are under pressure. Polish pharmaceutical market is at an important moment. The controversial 2017 reform, commonly known as “Pharmacy for Pharmacists”, hit the industry hard. The possibility of opening new outlets was significantly limited, which in turn had a negative impact on competition in the market. According to the latest data published by the research and consulting company PEX, the pharmacy market recorded sales of PLN4,668.2m in August 2025. This is a 5.3 percent increase y/y and a 6.2 percent decrease q/q. The advertising ban is also causing a lot of excitement. It has recently been in the spotlight following the June ruling by the Court of Justice of the European Union ordering Poland to repeal an article of the Pharmaceutical Law. The draft amendment has undergone internal consultations and will soon be submitted for public consultation, according to the ministry's press office. (ICE VARSAVIA)
