China’s Zhongkai Guoyuan begins construction of $200 mln sugar factory in Zhambyl regionThe construction of a sugar production plant has begun in the Zhambyl region in southern Kazakhstan, the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture reported.A groundbreaking ceremony for the future enterprise was held on Thursday, attended by Minister of Agriculture Aidarbek Saparov.The project investor is the Chinese company Zhongkai Guoyuan (Anhui) Industrial Investment Co., with total investments amounting to $200 million.The new factory will be able to process 1 million tonnes of sugar beets and produce 80,000-130,000 tonnes of white sugar per year, as well as up to 72,000 tonnes of beet pulp and 54,000 tonnes of molasses. This will fully meet the needs of the domestic market and allow for the export of products to Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Russia, and China.The Minister of Agriculture noted that there are currently four sugar beet processing enterprises operating in Kazakhstan, with a total processing capacity of 8,700 tonnes per day. Last year, farmers harvested a record sugar beet crop, and the industry faced processing challenges. (ICE ALMATY)
