INDONESIA'S MOTORCYCLE SALES TO REBOUND, REACHING 4.27 MLN UNITS BY AUGUST 2025

Motorcycle sales in Indonesia showed signs of recovery in July and August 2025, with August recording 578,041 units sold—despite a slight dip from July, this figure remained strong compared to the second quarter, which failed to surpass 510,000 units. The Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association (AISI) attributed the third-quarter rebound to improved commodity prices, successful harvests that boosted consumer purchasing power, and an increase in workdays. Cumulatively, sales from January to August reached 4.27 million units, marking a 1.70% year-on-year decline. Nevertheless, AISI maintains its annual sales target of 6.3–6.7 million units, citing average monthly performance as a basis for optimism, though September’s results and fewer workdays in the final quarter may prompt adjustments. Looking ahead, AISI anticipates further growth driven by Bank Indonesia’s interest rate cuts, which are expected to influence consumer behavior by the fourth quarter. Additionally, industry exhibitions like the Indonesia Motorcycle Show (IMOS), held from September 24–28, are expected to stimulate sales through new product launches, especially facelifts of sportbikes and automatic scooters. Automatic scooters continue to dominate the market, accounting for nearly 93% of total sales in 2025. Sigit Kumala expressed hope that IMOS would match last year’s Rp 70 billion in transactions, reinforcing the role of promotional events in sustaining industry momentum.Source: https://industri.kontan.co.id/news/penjualan-motor-bangkit-pada-kuartal-iii-2025-tembus-427-juta-unit-per-agustus-2025  (ICE GIACARTA)
