POLISH RE-COMMERCE MARKET IS GROWING

Poles are increasingly willing to buy second-hand goods online. Last year, the value of the re-commerce market grew by 15 percent to PLN9.5bn, according to OLX data. It is estimated that it currently accounts for 7.5 percent of all e-commerce. However, the Polish market still lags behind the Western market. In Europe, re-commerce accounts for an average of 14 percent of all online trade. “Poland is catching up, and in the coming years the growth rate may be similar or even higher”, says Prof. Arkadiusz Kawa from the University of Economics in Poznań. The expert points out that over the past year, as many as 83 percent of Poles have participated in the trade of used electronics. The situation is similar in the case of second-hand clothing. According to a report by ThredUp, this market will reach a value of USD367bn (PLN1.33bn) by 2029. This means that it will grow 2.7 times faster than the global clothing market as a whole.
