About 300,000 hectares of land in Kazakhstan to be converted into irrigated farmlandThe national company Kazakh Invest and the Harvest Agro Holding LLP have signed a memorandum of cooperation aimed at implementing an investment project to create the Harvest agro-industrial cluster."The project involves the phased conversion of up to 300,000 hectares of fallow and distant-pasture lands into irrigated farmland using modern water-saving technologies and infrastructure solutions. The first stage will develop 150,000 hectares. The total investment volume at the initial stage will be about $500 million," stated the Kazakh Invest press release.The project's geography will cover several regions of the country, including the Almaty, Zhetysu, Zhambyl, Aktobe, Pavlodar, Kyzylorda, and East Kazakhstan regions.According to Forbes, the Harvest Agro Holding LLP is part of the Harvest Group SA (Switzerland). It was founded by Kazakh businessman Almaz Alsenov. The holding is engaged in the international distribution of agricultural crops and products - wheat, corn, soybeans, and barley. Harvest Group has assets in the processing, storage, transportation, and transshipment of commodities. (ICE ALMATY)
