Kazakhstan to name street in Astana after Marco PoloPresident Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced on Monday that one of central streets in Astana will be named after the famous traveler Marco Polo."I am pleased to announce that one of the central streets in Astana will be named after the great son of the Italian people, Marco Polo, which will become a symbol of our close, friendly ties with Italy," Tokayev said during talks with Italian President Sergio Mattarella in Astana.Tokayev described Italy as a "close and time-tested strategic partner" of Kazakhstan in Europe."Our multifaceted cooperation is based on a solid political dialogue, a dynamic economic partnership, and active cultural and humanitarian ties," the head of state said.Mattarella welcomed the initiative, saying it underscored the Kazakh leader’s commitment to strengthening relations with Italy.He also added that the first Italian cultural center in Central Asia will open in Astana."From a cultural point of view, we cooperate in areas such as universities and education in general. Italy is opening its cultural center in Astana, and this will be the first Italian cultural center in Central Asia," Mattarella said. (ICE ALMATY)
