Kazakhstan, China launch second Dostyk–Moiynty rail linePresident Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on Monday attended the inauguration of the second Dostyk–Moyynty railway line, the presidential press service said.“We are witnessing the official opening of the second Dostyk–Moiynty railway line, which is indeed an exceptionally important infrastructure project. It will undoubtedly give a strong boost to the development and efficiency of Kazakhstan’s transport and logistics system,” Tokayev said at the ceremony.He mentioned that 35 years ago the Dostyk–Alashankou project was put into commercial operation. “The connection of the railway networks of Kazakhstan and China became a historic event for our country,” the president noted.Tokayev described China as “an eternal close neighbor and a reliable ally” of Kazakhstan, stressing that the two nations have consistently supported one another and built ties on friendship and mutual trust.“Our countries share a common vision of the future. Comprehensive cooperation is steadily strengthening. Of particular importance is the global Belt and Road project. As is well known, it was Kazakhstan where President Xi Jinping announced this initiative in 2013. We fully support the project and actively participate in its implementation, as it fully meets the interests of our country. A vivid example of this is the second Dostyk–Moiynty railway line,” Tokayev said.He added that construction was completed ahead of schedule thanks to the dedicated work of Kazakh workers. The new line will increase freight capacity fivefold and shorten delivery times for exports.Construction of the 836-kilometer line between Dostyk in the Almaty region, near the Chinese border, and Moiynty in the Karaganda region began in November 2022.
