EU REIMPOSES SANCTIONS ON IRAN UNDER COUNCIL REGULATION (EU) 2025/1975
The European Union has reimposed sanctions on Iran as of 29 September 2025, following the activation of the “snapback” mechanism under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) by the UK, France, and Germany at the UN Security Council.Council Regulation (EU) 2025/1975 amends Regulation (EU) No 267/2012, reinstating measures such as asset freezes on Iran’s central bank, restrictions on crude oil trade, bans on gold and specific maritime equipment, and travel restrictions for certain Iranian officials.The EU emphasized that diplomatic channels remain open despite these restrictive measures.
