INDONESIA’S PALM OIL EXPORT SOARS 35% TO OVER US$16 BILLION

Indonesia experienced a significant 35.23% year-on-year increase in palm oil exports during the first eight months of 2025, reaching US$16.66 billion compared to US$12.32 billion in the same period last year. This surge was driven by a 19.91% rise in average prices, climbing from US$868.42 to US$1,041.32 per ton, alongside a 13.56% boost in export volume from 14.26 million to 16.20 million tons. The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) attributed the growth primarily to price hikes. India emerged as a key market, importing US$2.73 billion worth of vegetable oils, which accounted for over 21% of Indonesia’s non-oil and gas exports to the BRICS partner. Despite the imposition of a 19% import duty by U.S. President Donald Trump in August, Indonesia still managed to export 2.6 million tons of palm oil and its derivatives to the U.S. that month. Meanwhile, exports to the European Union totaled US$1.27 billion from January to August, with US$192.64 million recorded in August alone. These robust export figures have helped Indonesia maintain a 64-month trade surplus streak since May 2020, reinforcing the commodity’s critical role in the country’s economic resilience and global trade footprint.Source: https://jakartaglobe.id/business/indonesias-palm-oil-export-soars-35-to-over-16-billion (ICE GIACARTA)
