Kazakhstan to increase oil supplies via Aktau-Baku-Ceyhan route to 1.7 mln tonnes in 2025 - Energy MinistryAstana intends to increase oil transportation volumes via the Aktau-Baku-Ceyhan route to 1.7 million tonnes in 2025, the press service of the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan reported.According to the press service, the Minister of Energy of the Republic, Yerlan Akkenzhenov, held a meeting with the Minister of Industry and Energy of Azerbaijan, Parviz Shahbazov as part of Kazenergy Week – 2025 in Astana on Thursday."An important topic of the negotiations was the development of transport infrastructure. The Aktau-Baku-Ceyhan route has become a key export artery for the supply of Kazakh oil. In 2023, 1.06 million tonnes were transported via it, and in 2025, it is planned to increase the volume to 1.7 million tonnes," stated a message distributed following the meeting.Akkenzhenov noted that "for our country, the Aktau-Baku-Ceyhan route is of strategic importance." "At the same time, the use of the Baku-Supsa direction is being maintained as a strategic reserve," Akkenzhenov is quotes as saying in the message.Earlier, the Chairman of the Board of KazMunayGas (KMG), Askhat Khassenov, informed journalists that supplies of Kazakh oil via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline by the end of the current year would amount to 1.2 million tonnes."In the first 9 months of 2025, 0.9 million tonnes of oil were transported via BTC. The expected volume for 2025 is 1.2 million tonnes via BTC," the head of KMG said on the sidelines of the XVI Eurasian KAZENERGY Forum in Astana.Also, according to the head of KMG, Kazakhstan is discussing volumes for increasing oil supplies via BTC in the range of 1.5-2.2 million tonnes."Regarding BTC, in the negotiation process, we are looking at a range from 1.5 million tonnes to 2.2 million tonnes (...)," he said.In 2022, KMG and the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) signed an agreement on the transit of Kazakh oil. In 2024, the parties concluded a new agreement providing for a phased increase in pumping volumes through the territory of Azerbaijan.The Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline, with a length of about 1,700 km, connects the Caspian region with the Turkish Mediterranean port of Ceyhan. Its throughput capacity reaches 50 million tonnes of oil per year. For Kazakhstan, BTC plays a strategic role in diversifying exports and ensuring stable access to world markets. (ICE ALMATY)
