VIỆT NAM ON TRACK TO BECOME PRESTIGIOUS REGIONAL MEDICAL TOURISM DESTINATION
Việt Nam possesses strong potential to become a leading regional hub for medical tourism, thanks to its competitive healthcare costs, skilled professionals, and growing international reputation. According to Hà Anh Đức, Director of the Department of Medical Service Administration under the Ministry of Health, Việt Nam’s advantages include its beautiful landscapes, safety, hospitality, and rising numbers of international visitors seeking both leisure and healthcare services. Before COVID-19, around 300,000 visitors combined tourism with medical care; this number is now in the tens of millions, though revenue still trails behind Thailand and Singapore. Việt Nam offers high-quality yet affordable services in dentistry, aesthetics, ophthalmology, and IVF, with prices 50–80% lower than regional competitors. Challenges include limited global-standard accreditation (JCI), weak international branding, and fragmented insurance and visa systems. The Ministry of Health aims to standardise quality, promote flagship services through global tourism networks, and integrate e-medical records for transparency. Through cross-sector collaboration and the implementation of Resolution 72-NQ/TW, Việt Nam seeks to position itself as a trusted, high-value destination for medical tourism while elevating its healthcare system’s global standing. — VNS / ICE News (ICE HO CHI MINH CITY)
