INDONESIA PREPARES LICENSING FRAMEWORK FOR CARBON STORAGE PROJECTS
Indonesia is advancing its green investment strategy by developing a licensing framework for carbon capture and storage (CCS) service projects, led by the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/BKPM. BKPM Deputy Nurul Ichwan emphasized that the agency's role is to manage all necessary permits, while the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) is identifying CCS zones for future development. These regulations will be integrated into the Online Single Submission (OSS) system to streamline the process. The initiative marks a pivotal move toward supporting sustainable infrastructure and attracting investment in low-carbon technologies. Deputy Minister of National Development Planning Febrian Alphyanto Ruddyard highlighted Indonesia’s potential to become a global provider of carbon storage services due to its vast capacity and cost advantages. He stressed the importance of building a strong regulatory ecosystem to encourage private sector participation and accelerate the country’s energy transition toward its Net Zero Emission (NZE) goal. Diofanny Swandrina Putri from the Indonesia CCS Center noted that Indonesia’s carbon storage potential ranges from 80 to 600 gigatons, and that CCS and Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) technologies could cut national emissions by up to 17 percent by 2060 when combined with other mitigation efforts.Source: https://indonesiabusinesspost.com/5423/energy-and-resources/indonesia-prepares-licensing-framework-for-carbon-storage-projects-eyes-eu-partnership (ICE GIACARTA)
