INDONESIA BANKS ON B50 PALM OIL FUEL TO END DIESEL IMPORT NEXT YEAR

Indonesia is conducting road tests on B50 biodiesel, a blend containing 50% palm oil, as part of its plan to eliminate foreign diesel imports by 2026. The country currently mandates B40 and aims to transition to B50 in the second half of 2026, leveraging its abundant palm oil resources. Energy Minister Bahlil Lahadalia stated that tests are underway on ships, trains, and heavy equipment, with final evaluations expected to take 6–8 months. If successful, the shift could mark a major milestone in Indonesia’s energy independence. To support the increased palm oil demand, the government is exploring ways to intensify crop yields and possibly expand planting areas. Bahlil noted that export reductions would only be considered if domestic supply falls short. Between 2020 and 2025, Indonesia saved US$40.71 billion in foreign exchange through biodiesel use, and the B50 policy could add another US$10.84 billion in savings in 2026 alone. The move reflects Indonesia’s broader strategy to reduce emissions and strengthen its renewable energy sector.Source: https://jakartaglobe.id/business/indonesia-banks-on-b50-palm-oil-fuel-to-end-diesel-import-next-year (ICE GIACARTA)
