: KOREAN AIR PARTNERS WITH SWEDEN'S WINGBITS ON ADVANCED AIR MOBILITY RESEARCH

Korean Air has partnered with Sweden-based flight-tracking company Wingbits to advance Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) research and improve integrated air traffic management for both manned and unmanned aircraft. The collaboration will provide Korean Air’s R&D teams with high-quality real-time ADS-B data covering the Incheon flight region, as well as parts of North America and Europe, enabling better monitoring, routing, and safety management. Wingbits operates one of the world’s fastest-growing encrypted flight tracking networks, achieving around 80 percent global coverage within its first year. By leveraging this data, Korean Air aims to strengthen its research into unmanned aerial vehicles, urban air mobility solutions, and next-generation aviation technologies, enhancing airspace integration and operational efficiency. Industry observers note that the partnership reflects Korea’s ambition to position itself as a global leader in aviation innovation, particularly in the rapidly growing AAM sector. The integration of real-time tracking data with Korean Air’s operational systems could serve as a model for other airlines seeking to safely incorporate drones, air taxis, and other advanced aerial vehicles into commercial airspace. Beyond technology development, the collaboration also signals Korean Air’s commitment to strengthening international cooperation, as the data spans multiple continents and allows the airline to benchmark its systems against global air traffic conditions. The Korean Air–Wingbits partnership is a significant step toward creating a more connected and efficient airspace environment, advancing both the airline’s technological capabilities and South Korea’s position in the global aviation ecosystem.   (ICE SEOUL)
