EC GRANTS EUR 35 MLN TO POLISH AI PLANT

An AI factory set to be built in the southern Polish city of Krakow will receive a total subsidy of PLN 300 million (EUR 70 million), over half of which — EUR 38 million — will be provided by the European Commission (EC), a deputy digitisation minister has said."The European Commission has decided to include a Polish artificial intelligence factory in a European programme, which involves co-financing," Dariusz Standerski said on Friday. "The Gaia Artificial Intelligence Factory in Krakow will receive a total of approximately PLN 300 million in funding for the construction of state-of-the-art computing infrastructure and the development of artificial intelligence, thanks to which Poland will join the elite group of European Union countries at the forefront of this field."The European Union will provide EUR 38 million towards the factory construction while Poland's Ministry of Science and Higher Education and Ministry of Digital Affairs will secure the rest of the funding, Standerski said.According to him, the factory will serve scientists, businesspeople and public administration.Standerski went on to say that with this new investment, Poland will have two AI factories, alongside only two other EU member states, Germany and Spain.  (ICE VARSAVIA)
