DA, FAO COMMIT TO ENSURE FOOD SECURITY IN SE ASIA
OFFICIALS of the Philippines' Agriculture department (DA) and the United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) recently held high-level meetings in Manila to ensure food security in the Philippines and Southeast Asia. Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. and FAO Assistant Director-General Dr. Alue Dohong discussed aligning priorities, particularly in climate resilience, investment, innovation, and inclusive growth, the DA said. “We are not only talking about food security. We are committing to the transformation of agri-food systems,” Tiu Laurel noted. The meeting highlighted the over four-decade collaboration of the Philippines and FAO, which is facing challenges such as climate change, disease outbreaks, and volatile food prices. Tiu Laurel said he asked for FAO's technical assistance for the Philippines to catch up on 27 years of backlogs in agricultural development, saying the country has been through decades of underinvestment in the sector. https://www.manilatimes.net/2025/10/14/business/top-business/da-fao-commit-to-ensure-food-security-in-se-asia/2199706 (ICE SINGAPORE)
