SOFT LOANS FOR WOMEN'S SMALL- AND MEDIUM-SIZED ENTERPRISES
Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani has reaffirmed his government's commitment to supporting women's rights and empowerment, directing the launch of new financial and training initiatives for women across Iraq.Chairing a meeting of the Supreme Council for Women's Affairs, the Prime Minister announced the launch of the Basmat (Fingerprint) Initiative, which will provide soft loans to women for establishing small and medium-sized enterprises. The initiative will be implemented in cooperation with a group of Iraqi banks and the Credit Guarantee Company.Al-Sudani also instructed council members to meet with female entrepreneurs and project owners, in coordination with the Businesswomen's Council and the Federation of Industries, to enhance women's participation in the private sector.The council approved the second phase of an agricultural training programme for 1,500 female agricultural engineers across 15 provinces. Additionally, a new training scheme will begin in Baghdad for 500 female civil, architectural, and veterinary professionals.As part of efforts to support women in politics, the Prime Minister directed coordination with the Independent High Electoral Commission to train female election candidates and protect them from online blackmail and harassment.He also called for the participation of the head of the Child Welfare Authority in the council's next meeting to review recent achievements in child protection and welfare.
