PHILIPPINES TO HALT SUGAR IMPORTS UNTIL MID-2026 TO BOOST PRICES
THE Philippines will not be importing sugar until the middle of next year in a bid to prop up domestic prices, the Department of Agriculture (DA) said on Wednesday. DA and Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) officials were said to have made the commitment during a meeting to discuss the low raw sugar prices offered during last week’s sugar bidding in August. Traders were said to have hesitated from making purchases due to conflicting statements from farmer groups, prompting assurances that no imports would be made until the end of the current milling season, projected to be between May and June 2026. https://www.manilatimes.net/2025/10/16/business/top-business/philippines-to-halt-sugar-imports-until-mid-2026-to-boost-prices/2201625 (ICE SINGAPORE)
