Kazakhstan to cover electricity deficit in autumn-winter with imports from Russia, Uzbekistan – KEGOCThe electricity deficit expected in Kazakhstan during the autumn-winter period of 2025-2026 will be covered by imports from Russia and Uzbekistan, said Nabi Aitzhanov, CEO of KEGOC."In accordance with the developed balances, a deficit in both electrical energy and capacity is expected from October 2025 to March 2026," Aitzhanov said on Thursday at a meeting of the Samruk-Kazyna Public Council.According to him, with a forecasted maximum load of 17.6 GW, the maximum generation from power plants will be about 16.7 GW. The capacity deficit is forecast at 0.9 GW."A monthly electricity deficit is expected to range from 125 million kWh to 330 million kWh. The total deficit during the autumn-winter period may exceed 1 billion kWh," the company's head noted.He clarified that covering the electricity and capacity deficit is planned through imports from the interconnected power systems of the Russian Federation and Uzbekistan.KEGOC performs the functions of the System Operator of the Unified Energy System of Kazakhstan. As of July 1, 2025, the main shareholder of the company with an 85% stake is the Sovereign Wealth Fund Samruk-Kazyna, while another 6.93% is owned by the Unified Accumulative Pension Fund.
