$5M TO CONVERT NAZARKE FORTRESS TO MUSEUM
The historic Nazarke Fortress in Duhok - once a detention and torture site under the Ba'ath regime - will be restored and converted into a museum at a cost of $5 million.The project will memorialise the victims of the Anfal campaign, preserving evidence and testimonies of atrocities committed against the Kurdish people of Badinan. It will also provide educational facilities for visitors and researchers.Built in 1985, Nazarke Fortress imprisoned more than 3,000 people. The site will be redeveloped with a new access road and upgraded to meet modern museum standards. (ICE AMMAN)
