KAZAKHSTAN-FUEL-PRICE-FREEZE
Kazakhstan freezes fuel prices, rejects nationwide price capKazakhstan's Energy Ministry detailed a temporary moratorium on fuel price increases that took effect October 16, requiring gas stations to freeze prices at their current levels rather than setting a nationwide cap."The key principle of the measure is the freezing of retail prices for AI-92 gasoline and diesel fuel at the level that was in effect at each specific gas station network as of Oct. 16, 2025," the Ministry said. The ministry said this approach maintains market competition. Current prices at major networks range from 213 to 239 tenge per liter for gasoline and 317 to 337 tenge for diesel. The government assured sufficient fuel reserves are available, with 341,000 tonnes of gasoline and 405,000 tonnes of diesel in stock, "enough for 3-4 weeks of supply." Two domestic refineries continue normal operations while the Atyrau refinery prepares to resume production after scheduled maintenance. The price freeze, approved at Thursday's government meeting, will remain until inflation stabilizes. Kazakhstan's annual inflation reached 12.9% in September, with monthly inflation at 1.1%. (ICE ALMATY)
