Qarmet plans to increase steel production to 3.7 mln tonnes in 2025The Qarmet metallurgical plant (formerly ArcelorMittal Temirtau) plans to produce 3.7 million tonnes of steel in 2025, which is 5.7% higher than in 2024, Yerbol Ismailov, Managing Director for Sustainable Development at Qarmet JSC, told Interfax-Kazakhstan."At the moment, the company has production plans for 2025. By the end of the year, it is planned to produce 3.7 million tonnes of steel, 7 million tonnes of coal, and 3.5 million tonnes of ore," Ismailov said in an interview with Interfax-Kazakhstan.In 2024, the plant produced 3.5 million tonnes of steel, Qarmet specified.The managing director recalled that the company's strategic benchmark is to reach 9 million tonnes of coal production, 5 million tonnes of iron ore concentrate, and 5 million tonnes of liquid steel by 2028.The international concern ArcelorMittal owned the largest Kazakh metallurgical plant, ArcelorMittal Temirtau, since the 1990s. In the second half of 2023, cooperation with it was terminated at the initiative of the Kazakh authorities due to repeated accidents that resulted in the deaths of workers. The new investor of the former ArcelorMittal assets (ArcelorMittal Temirtau and the pipe plant in Aktau) was Andrey Lavrentyev, a co-owner of the Kazakh automobile manufacturer Allur, who bought them for $286 million.
