Kazakh government and National Bank to announce action plan to curb inflationThe government and the National Bank are developing a joint action plan aimed at reducing inflationary pressure, Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov announced on Wednesday."In September, the inflation rate was 12.9%. In our view, this is a very high figure and it needs to be reduced. Together with the National Bank, we are developing an action plan. We will publish the document for the public as soon as it is ready," Bektenov said during a Wednesday meeting of the Majilis, the lower house of parliament.He said that "macroeconomic stability is very important" for the government, which is why the cabinet must take measures to curb inflation.Year-on-year inflation in September reached 12.9%, up from 12.2% in August.In September, prices for paid services rose 15.3% year-on-year in September (15.3% in August), food prices increased by 12.7% (11.7% in August), and non-food goods became 10.8% more expensive (9.7% in August), according to the National Statistics Bureau.The largest contributors to the annual inflation rate were prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages, accounting for 5 percentage points (p.p.), followed by housing services (1.9 p.p.) and healthcare services (1.5 p.p.).
